I had not competed in any sporting event for about 15 years at this point, I was so uncooked and not prepared for what I had signed up for! The morning of I was trying to remain calm but I can only remember myself downing tonnes of water, freaking out because I had no plan for my training and was really only 6 months back into fitness of any sort.

I was trying to remember all the tips I had heard, about preparing your bike in the correct gear etc in the transition, I was not really thinking straight!

So when the first run started I was caught off guard, I was keeping with a group which the pace was not best fit it was ‘too easy’ but I was used to social runs so I stayed with them for the most part (error 1)!

I had forgotten to get my gels etc out of my bag so I realised mid way my levels were what they were and nothing was changing that.

The bike leg was smoother, although it again wasn’t my best mainly due to this being my first comp and my training had been very basic!

So I did finally finish and results were good as a starting indicator!

I learnt many lessons about myself and my abilities, I learnt about mind over body! My limits and my preparation and left this event ready for another challenge!!
