On New Years day I decided to run up Mt Kosciuszko, training for 2019!! The air is thinner and the sights are prettier, making it a fantastic way to start the new year.
As I was starting out from Thredbo I chose to catch the lift up from the village, this still made my trip 12.6km return. I left the village around 15:30 and the lifts closed off at 17:00 so I was under a big time pressure from the minute I got to the top of the lift.
The weather was lovely at approximately 20 degrees Celcius and not too windy. My overall pace was good, obviously trekking up was a slower pace than my return trip.

I had gels and energy bars on board which I found I needed on the return trip, mostly to help keep my muscles firing because the thinner air was making it a bit harder to keep the pace going I was short on breath more.
Overall the trip up and back was great, with more planning and preparation I would like to not get the lift up and back and run that part of the track as well. Alternatively, run from Charlotte’s Pass side up to the Summit.
