Canberra Club Triathlon Enduro 2018 – Training

So my next triathlon I am training for now is the Canberra Club Triathlon on 15th December; this event they are offering an enduro which is a ‘double’ event.

Swim 200m, Ride 5.8km, Run 2km, Swim 200m, Ride 5.8km, Run 2km

Originally I thought I would just do their ‘novice’ event which is the other one on offer (200m Swim / 11.6km Cycle / 2km Run) however I don’t feel that would challenge me enough. Include the fact I am wanting to do a half Ironman next year I need to start to up my game and push a bit harder.

For those that are not aware, a half Ironman distances are (1.9km Swim, 90km Cycle, 21.1km Run). I am planning to in the early-2019 completing a Standard distance triathlon which distances are (1.5km Swim, 40km Cycle, 10km Run).

So now I have setup with an indoor trainer, I can get to pushing my training sets to 40-90km sessions and with the nicer weather coming our way I should be able to get out and do some more running to bring me up to half marathon or event full marathon levels.

At this stage Ironman 70.3 Western Sydney 2019 will be around November 24th (this was the 2018 dates) so I am working towards that for my training. I believe it is attainable, my main area to focus on developing is my Open Water Swimming it is very different to lap swimming; especially when you have current and waves to contend with, makes the side breathing a challenge not to inhale water.
