I was loaned a Indoor Trainer from a friend, Zwift gives you 20kms FREE to try the platform.

Stats from my first Zwift session

So I setup my bike, got my sensors calibrated and I was away. I found the connectivity was good; I have Wahoo Speed and Cadance sensors on my bike and a Wahoo TickrX HRM, my Garmin Forerunner 735XT doesn’t really participate in this activity.

I synchronized these through my iPhone bluetooth to Zwift running on my iPhone. The first session is a training session, which helps you understand your zones and using the different zones.

The trainer I am using was nothing ‘smart’ about it, just a fluid trainer (I have realised I need to get a trainer tyre, they wear down the tyre rather quickly if you are using standard tyres).

Basic setup I had for my first Zwift session

I was surprised by the intensity, I do strongly recommend venting well. I had a ceiling fan above the bike and I also put the air conditioning on to make it cool; it was still very hot work.

I also paused mid-ride to change into cycling attire, it was worth changing. I realised to dress for a ride (left the helmet off, no need for that one).

Post Zwift Pic

I felt good post ride, it was only the first training session and nothing TOO crazy. I can see it would be great for training long rides. Canberra is located where you need to go on a highway to do big kilometers (miles), and with me training for an Ironman 70.3 I will need to put some big kilometers onto the bike.
