Change – Are you holding back?

Change can be daunting for us; change brings elements of fear. So why do many of us live a life which we are not happy with, but don’t act on changing it? Often it is a matter of working out what ‘your perfect life looks like’; then work out what you need to do to achieve that.

Roadmap

Same as deciding you want to lose weight; you decide your goal weight then you can come up with an action plan to achieve that goal. Breaking it down into baby steps, daily changes and tweaks; this applies to job, family, everything can be changed.

Sounds simple

Anything which you are the variable you can change; jobs, career, these all are dependent on the decisions you make in each scenario. If you have no destination you are just a boat in the ocean drifting aimlessly; you need to know where you are going in all aspects that way you can ‘tick off boxes’ with the small accomplishments.

Just like weight loss or any other changes it requires commitment, and scaled achievements. If you set a high bar before you get your first achievement you will lose interest and feel like giving up.

Small wins

When you chop up your overall plan, you start to see what it will need from you in smaller achievements and you can move forward. If you want to change career or job, work out what you want to be doing. Then you can look at maybe a course you need to do, make the first goal signing up for the class/course; then you can make the second mark attending your first class. Find ways you can reward your accomplishments; the big win will be at the end, get a friend or someone to ‘keep you on task’.

Remember to allow this person to call you out, if you can’t take it from a friend then get your mum to do it!! Often we need a boot up our backside to keep us focused; we lose interest and would rather sit and watch TV or do anything but what we ‘should’.

Overcoming disinterest

You will need to keep that end goal in focus, remind yourself daily of what you are working towards. If you need to get motivation get yourself a gift something you really like and give it to the person who is keeping you on-track. This person should also be the one who gives you the small rewards; this way you don’t just indulge yourself just because you needed the inspiration.
